CHEWNING, C. HAYWOOD, died on January 27, 2022. He was born on November 27, 1927 to Jack and Lillian Puryear Chewning. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Lloyd Chewning; daughter, Pat Broocks and granddaughter, Alexandra Chewning. Haywood was also preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia C. Holman; Ellen C. Nuckols; and Anne C. Gentry; brothers, Warren, Bill, and Tom Chewning. He is survived by his son, H. Glenn Chewning; his son-in-law, Ron Broocks (Jo Maul); grandchildren, Rebecca and Anne Kathryn Severin, Catherine C. Masters (Blake), Amanda and Brandon Broocks; great-grandchildren, Zach Herring and Bryson Broocks, Brennan and Kellan Basiliere, Jack Goldwyre, Miles, Graham and Rex Masters. He worked at Blue Cross-Blue Shield for 35 years in the Statistic and Rating Dept. During summers, he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and loved sharing the produce with many. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bliley's Staples Mill Chapel 8510 Staples Mill Road. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Mt Vernon Baptist Church, 11220 Nuckols Road, followed by a reception. The family is grateful for compassionate care provided by the James River Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church 11220 Nuckols Rd.
