Reverend Robert Lee "Bob" Cloninger transitioned to heaven on February 1,2022.

Bob was born on January 16,1937 in Dallas, North Carolina to the late Robert Clyde "Boley" Cloninger and Ruth Huffstetler Cloninger. He was a member of Rankin Lake Baptist Church.

He attended Dallas High School, Furman University and Southern Seminary. In his 60 years of ministry, he served as pastor of Southern Baptist churches in North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina. He had a passion for missions and went on several mission trips and conducted numerous revivals. He was awarded the Church Planter designation by the North Carolina Baptist State Convention.

Although he lived with the neuromuscular disease, CMT, for over 75 years, he was still able to pastor a church until he was 79 years old. Bob had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. He had a unique preaching style he called a singing sermon which combined songs within the message.

Bob had a wonderful sense of humor, and the ability to make people laugh. He believed that "Everybody is Somebody" and had the gift of making people feel important. He was affectionately known as "Preacher Bob" to his congregations.

He enjoyed traveling and visited almost every state. His favorite trips were family vacations to the beach. He loved old cars and knew the make and model of any car built before 1995. He loved to drive his Cadillac.

The most important thing to him was his family. He loved and was proud of his four daughters and considered their husbands his sons, and he adored his grandchildren. The love of his life was his wife of 65 years, Frances. Together, they were the best example of a Christian marriage.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Frances Holland Cloninger; his daughters, Dr. Karen Cloninger Lowe and husband Jeff, Linda Cloninger Parker and husband Randy, Carla Cloninger Helms and husband Brad, Melody Cloninger Brunson and husband Gary; his grandchildren, Ashlee Sibbett, Katie and Lindsay Lowe, Jacob Brooks, and Ella Brunson; his brother, Ronnie Cloninger and wife Brenda and his brother in law, Tommy Holland and wife Jo Ann, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will have a private committal service at Gaston Memorial Park.
