HONORING FALLEN HILLSBOROUGH DEPUTY
February 2, 2022

Deputy Abigail Rose Bieber, who patrolled the northwest portion of Hillsborough County, was fatally shot on January 29, 2022 in St. Johns County. Deputy Bieber, who was 30 years old, had worked with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office since February of 2018.

Earlier today, she was escorted home to Clearwater by Hillsborough County motorcade. Deputies and Palatka Police Officers lined up in several areas thoroughout our county to offer our respects.

Please keep Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time as well as Deputy Bieber's family.

Bieber, Abigail Rose "Abby" 30, of Clearwater, FL was tragically murdered, by a person from Toms River, NJ, on Sunday, January 30, 2022. Born March 14, 1991 in Washington, DC Abby bravely relocated to Florida in 2016 from Bethesda, Maryland.

Abby proudly served the District III community of Hillsborough County for four years as a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy. While Abby's four year service as a Deputy was mostly concentrated on patrol, she also did special assignments in undercover work and at the Boys and Girls Club where she established many deep connections with the Boys and Girls Club children and staff even though her service there was brief. Additionally, Abby worked many off-duty shifts at Tampa Bay Downs where, once again, her infectious personality and enthusiasm made her many deep and abiding friendships. Abby was just recently approved by her command staff to begin an assignment in the HCSO Street Crimes unit. This transition likely would have led her to her "dream job" as a Detective in the Special Victims Section of the Criminal Investigations Division as a specialist in crimes against children. Abby was an avid runner and cherished her frequent visits to the Dunedin Causeway with her mother. She was also a great baker and enjoyed sharing her sweet treats with her family.

She is survived by her parents, Bruce and Sarah; brothers, Daniel and Ben, and sister-in-law Gabby; nephews, James and Henry her dog, Louey. In addition, she will be missed by her grandmother and many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and countless friends who loved her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Mary Lee's House, 2806 N. Armenia Ave., Tampa, 33607 (https://maryleeshouse.org/), Max and Me Pet Rescue, 12191 W. Linebaugh Ave. #554, Tampa, FL 33626. or The Boys and girls Club c/o Sam and Laurice Hachem Foundation Club at Town 'n country Park, 6039 Hanley Road, Tampa, FL 33634HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – An investigation is underway in the death of two deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office whose bodies were found inside a vacation rental home Saturday night.

According to the sheriff's office, Detective Daniel Leyden and Deputy Abigail Bieber, who were in a romantic relationship, were on vacation in St. Augustine, Florida, with some other deputies.

Authorities said the deputies heard the couple arguing in a bedroom just before the sound of gunshots.

"Our sheriff's office family is still reeling from the shock of this unthinkable tragedy," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. The preliminary investigation indicates Leyden, who worked with the criminal investigations division, allegedly shot Bieber before shooting himself.

Bieber, 30, was assigned to the uniform patrol district and had worked with the sheriff's office since 2018. Coworkers say Bieber had recently bought a house and considered her two German shepherds - Louis and Pepper her babies. She is pictured here with Louis.

"Deputy Abigail Bieber was an outstanding law enforcement officer, and by all accounts, an even better person who left a positive impact on every member of her squad and the countless members of our community who she encountered while on patrol," Chronister said. "Violence is never a solution."

The motive and circumstances of this fatal shooting are under investigation by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

"This tragedy has left our sheriff's office family grief-stricken. There is a void within our hearts that can never be filled, but I hope that Deputy Beiber's legacy will be the way she lived her life, as a selfless servant," Chronister said.

Funeral service for Abigail will be held Friday, February 11, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Countryside Christian Church, 1800 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater, Fl 33759.

Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park & Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
