N. Winona (Schiele) Haman formerly of Towner, died 29 Jul 2006, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, 2 Aug, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Towner, burial in church cemetery. Rosary today at Anderson Funeral Home. The casket bearers will be grandsons - names omitted.
Winona, daughter of Frank and Gertrude (Murray) Schiele, was born in rural Balfour on 29 Nov 1919. Following high school in Balfour, she attended Minot Teachers College, receiving her teaching certificate.
On 20 Nov 1941 she married Adam P. Haman in Drake. They settled on a farm south of Towner and had 12 children, one son died an infant, one at age 15. Adam died 27 Feb 1965, leaving Winona to raise the family on the farm.
After retiring to Bismarck in the late 1970's she kept busy; quilting, avid reader, knitting, needlepoint. She also co-authored two genealogy books. She enjoyed summers at Lake Metigoshe with family. A member of Church of Corpus Christi in Bismarck, American Legion Auxiliary in Harvey, Germans from Russia Heritage Society, former member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church of Towner.
Survived by 10 children; 3 daughters, Jeanne (Gary) Feist, Nancy (George) Volk, both of Bismarck, ND, Suzanne (Lee) Wanner of Bettendorf, IA; 6 sons, Arlan (Ginny) of North Pole, AK, Donald (Daphne) of Rugby, ND, Charles (Casey) of Las Vegas, NV, Gordon (Nicki) and Bruce all of Towner, Richard of Mohall, ND, Randy of Lincoln, ND; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Eleanor Anton of Harvey; nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband; 2 sons, Daniel and Lenny; 1 sister, Mildred; 3 brothers, Frank, Don, Glen; her parents.
