Frederick Thomas Eckman, age 91, of Morganfield Ky. passed away at Saint Anthony's Hospice, Henderson, Ky. on January 30, 2022. Fred was born on October 6, 1930 to Charles and Emma Jean Eckman in Uniontown, KY. He was the youngest of three children including Billy Matt Eckman and Marietta Baird. Freddie served in the U. S. Navy from 1951 – 1954 during the Korean War on the USS Cadmus, which was a repair ship. He was very patriotic and proud of his Navy days and told lots of stories about that time in his life. When he was drafted, he had never been out of Uniontown Ky, it was a long way to Norfolk, Va. One accomplishment Freddie was proud of was his welding ability. Because of his exceptional welding skill during his time in the Navy he was asked to train as an underwater welder in San Diego, he turned it down because he wanted to stay on his ship with his friends. He often wondered how his life would have been different had he accepted this mission, but then he would quickly say he probably wouldn't have met the love of his life, Mary Evelyn. After Fred's service to our country, he joined his father & brother running a grain & hog farm. Fred was passionate about the Knights of Columbus St Agnes where he was a 4th degree member, all things Saint Agnes Parish, Right to Life including many marches in DC. Fred loved the ocean, boating & camping on the Ohio River, enjoying time with family & friends. Together Fred & Mary Devoted their life raising a loving family.
