**** 1st obituary ****
Mrs Mary A Allen died at the home of her son James R Allen who lives on the old homeplace about 8 miles south of this city, January 4, 1906 of dropsy of the heart, aged 78 years.

Funeral services conducted by Rev Nicholas Allee, were held Saturday and the remains interred in the Sappington cemetery.

Mrs Allen was the widow of the late Thomas L Allen, and was born in Tennessee in 1827, coming to Missouri with her parents when a small child, and settled in Randolph county, afterwards came to this county, where she lived for many years. Her maiden name was Dunham, being a sister of Joseph and William Dunham, well known residents of this city and county. In 1844 she was united in marriage to Thomas L Allen, who died several years ago. Five sons survive her, William, John T, James R, and Joel R Allen, all of whom reside in this county, and George Allen who lives in Kansas.

Since her early youth, Mrs Allen has been a member of the Baptist church, was a devout and sincere Christian, a faithful worker in the Masters' cause, though, of late years, owing to failing health, she had not been so active in the work as she had been formerly. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. In her death, the church loses a consistent member, her children a kind and loving mother, and the community a good woman.
