NOTE FOR BIO: He was enumerated as William Able - no middle name or initial - on the 1850 U.S. Census of Northwest Township, Orange County, Indiana. Also, as William Able on the 1860 U.S. Census of Columbia Township, Martin County, Indiana. William Ables [sic] on the 1870 U.S. Census of Columbia Township, Martin County, Indiana. and William Abel on the 1880 U.S. Census of Columbia Township, Martin County, Indiana. Not one of these documents recorded a middle initial or name for William. At least three of his children's death certificates also given only the name William.
There was another William Abel, born about the same time, who lived in Martin County, Indiana. That man was also recorded as William F., Francis, and Frank Abel. He married Kisiah McNanny in 1846, but reportedly died in 1859; Kisiah married George Waggoner in August 1860.
