Notes:
It is said that lead was discovered many years since, by the Indians, on Shawnee creek, Short creek and Shoal creek.
In 1874-5, ore was discovered in considerable quantities at different points on Short creek. In 1876, at Bonanza, on Short creek, and in 1877, one mile above Bonanza, also on Short creek, the great lead mines of that vicinity were opened, creating a great deal of excitement, and rapidly building up Empire City, a city of the second class, and Galena, a city of the third class.

Thanks to Dani Johnson:

I think this stone's marking could be confusing. Cecil was my grandmother (my father's mother). Donald who is buried next to her as seen on this stone was Cecil's son. I'm not certain if they put brother as Donald left behind two big brothers; but I think one might misunderstand the relationship.

Sincerely,
Dani Johnson
