He was born September 4, 1936 in Anson County, a son of the late Jodie Silas and Addie Estelle Beachum Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter was a member of Poplar Hill United Methodist Church and was employed with Anson Shirt Factory.
Funeral services for Mr. Carpenter will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2002 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro with Dr. Avery Owenby officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends tonight (Tuesday) from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and other times at the home of his daughter.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Carpenter.
Surviving are his wife, Myra Brooks Carpenter of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Johnny Brown of Polkton; and his grandsons, Jody Brown and Justin Brown, both of Polkton.
Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Howard Carpenter, Charles Carpenter, Greg Carpenter, Roy Carpenter and Mrs. Betsy Vanhoy, all of Polkton, Ed Carpenter of Wadesboro, Mrs. Aileen Martin and Mrs. Lucille Horne, both of Peachland, and Mrs. Polly Nance of Clayton, NC; and his sister-in-law and dear friend, Mrs. Carolyn Carpenter of Marshville.
