He was a member of First Baptist Church of Locust. Rev. Martin attended Gardner Webb and the University of Georgia. He was a retired Baptist Minister and a former Science and Biology teacher at West Stanly High School where he founded the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was a coach of several sports. He was called into the ministry in 1987 and served with his as a language missionary to the Inupiat Eskimos in Kotzebue, Alaska for seven years. He then pastored churches in Stanly and Cabarrus counties until retiring in 2017. His greatest loves have been his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years of the home, his daughter of Mint Hill; son of Rockwell; sister of Dalton, GA; four grandchildren and great-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Laurie Martin, and his sister Mary Martin.
His funeral service will be on Sunday at 3 PM at First Baptist Church of Locust with Pastor Tab Whitley and Pastor Tommy Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 2 until 3 prior to the service.
