Gladys Norris "Holly" Glenn died January 11, 2022 at her residence in Bloomington, Indiana. Born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 14, 1921, she was the daughter of Archie C. Norris and Bertha Mae Norris. She was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University majoring in English, a subject she proceeded to teach for two years in a Detroit high school. Holly then switched careers to become a stewardess for Capitol Airlines based in Washington, D.C. During this time she met her future husband Alfred Hill Glenn, whom she married in 1947. The couple soon moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where Alfred established a consulting firm in the fields of meteorology, oceanography and civil engineering, specializing in the needs of the offshore oil industry. Holly assisted in the running of the practice and was also a decades-long volunteer and officer at the Delgado Art Museum in New Orleans. She was especially proud that her museum was chosen as one of six in the United States to host the King Tut exhibition. During its four-month run there in 1978 the exhibit drew 870,000 visitors. After Alfred's death in 2000 she moved to Bloomington, Indiana. Holly is survived by nephews Barratt Patton (Kim), Ian Patton (Beth) of Bloomington and niece Carrie Engevik (Glen) of Everett, Washington. She is also fondly remembered by numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother Harry Norris and his wife Phyllis, and nephews Jamie Patton, Roger Patton and David Norris. The Glenns were early settlers in Switzerland County and owned a house and property in Moorefield from 1890-2010. Holly was laid to rest next to Alfred in Caledonia Cemetery near Moorefield.
Services were held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the Caledonia Cemetery.
