Ms. Doris Audrey Hamby Miles, age 100 of Ferguson, went home to be with her Lord Friday, January 14, 2022. Doris was born September 18, 1921 in Wilkes County to Jasper and Fredona Hamby. She became the first female rural mail carrier in North Carolina. She loved to paint, garden, solve word searches, and spend time with family. Doris had a close relationship with Jesus Christ, and she read her Bible every night. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Miles; two daughters, Peggy Miles and Infant Rhetta Lynn Miles; five brothers and three sisters.
Doris is survived by one son, Daniel Miles and wife, Bonnie of Ferguson; one daughter, Patti Byrd and husband, Don of Arlington; four grandchildren, Chad Miles and wife, Jamie, Tonya Miles, Brian Byrd, and Jenee Wood and husband, David; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Miles and Rierson Miles.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mike Hamby officiating. Doris will lie in state in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Prayer Chapel from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Flowers will be accepted. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
