William Hart is the Hart family's emigrant ancestor from England to Ontario, Canada, and eventually to the U.S. through his two sons. While at least two of his children (George Hart, John A Hart) headed even further west into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan there is no evidence that William or his wife Mary joined them.

From their children's Canadian and Michigan death records, we know William married a Mary Bright (also spelled "Brite"). It's possible that William and Mary were from County Kent, as there is an 11 Nov 1837 baptism record in Greenwich, St Alphege Parish, Kent, England for their daughter Emma Eleanor, 'daughter of William and Mary Hart."

There is also an earlier record, possibly for William's birth. It is baptism record for a "Richard Hart" on 25 Jul 1814 in the same Parish, whose parents were William and Elizabeth Hart. Thus, it's POSSIBLE that our William went by his father's name and dropped the use of Richard altogether before emigrating. So far, however, there are no other records found in that area, such as the other children born in England or our William & Mary's marriage record...so it is being further researched.

William and Mary likely married about 1835/1836 in England or elsewhere in the U.K., had three children there, and then emigrated to the Bruce Peninsula, Ontario about 1842, based on the birthplaces of their children (Emma Eleanor was born England 1837; John was born 1843 in Ontario).

William and Mary had seven (7) children:

1-Emma Eleanor (or J?) Hart (1837 – 1911) m. Absalom Brown, a widower (no ch.)

2-George Hart (1841 – 1914) m. 1st Annie Elizabeth Middaugh (aka Meadows), 9 ch.; m. 2nd Sarah (Robinson) Hart, his brother's widow

3-Mary Ann Hart (1841 – ?) possible twin to George

4-John A. Hart (1843 – 1899) m. Sarah Robinson, 3 ch.

5-Sarah Hart (1849 – ?)

6-Susan Hart (1854 – ?)

7-Edgar Hart (1859 – 1886) NOTE: Brother-in-law Absalom Brown was informant on death certificate (killed by a tree). Also shows Edgar's birth as Seymour, Ont.

Death: Unknown. Probably Bruce Co., Ontario, Canada or Michigan, USA. It is unknown when or where William died, or whether he (or Mary) ever emigrated from Canada to Michigan.

NOTE: William & Mary's grandson William Henry Hart, born in Ontario, Canada and who emigrated to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as a child, indicated that he was a staunch "Orangeman." This may have ties to his Irish mother, Sarah Robinson Hart, as the Orangemen are a Northern Ireland Protestant organization, but it may also indicate Hart ties to Irish descendency.
