Gene was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church as well as a lifelong resident of Hardeman County. Her childhood was in the community of Medicine Mound. She married Rufus Karr in Chillicothe on July 7, 1946 and was a homemaker. A lifelong friend reports she played the piano in a musical concert at her Medicine Mound School while a student.
