Veteran: War of 1812: 1 Reg't (Taylor's) Virginia Militia

John most likely headed to Indiana for a land grant possibly due his father for services rendered in the Revolutionary War. After the War of 1812 John went to Harrison County Indiana with his older brother Benjamin, also a veteran of the War of 1812. John's brother Benjamin signed the oath for John's marriage license.

In 1833, suffering from financial difficulties and ill health, he took his family to Rockport to be near the wife's family. He died of tuberculosis seven months, later leaving his wife and seven children: Rebecca, Sarah, Eliza Ann, Henry, Robert M, John and Nancy Richards.

John, son of the immigrant (Heinrich Reichart aka Henry Richard) is mentioned in the biography of R.M. Richards found in the book, "History of Warrick, Spencer & Perry Co., IN, 1885". It says John was a soldier in the War of 1812 and came to IN about the time it was admitted to state.
