Elva Mae Smith, 83, of Blue Mountain, Arkansas, passed from this life on Thursday, January 6, 2022. She was born March 21, 1938 in Raymondville, Texas to Roy and Jewel (Fondren) Gamel.

She was retired from Wayne Poultry in Danville and loved gardening.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Johnny and Mark Grubbs; brothers, Roy Jr., W.L., John, Elmer, and William Gamel; and her parents before mentioned.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Blue Mountain Cemetery in Blue Mountain, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at Roberts Funeral Home in Booneville.

Elva is survived by her sons, Darrion and Garry Grubbs, both of Blue Mountain; daughter, Marlene Mejia (James) of Henderson, Nevada; sisters, Florene Duncan of Mesa, Arizona, Sue Clatone of Phoenix, Arizona, Shirley Lane of Queen Creek, Arizona, Janice Lane of Suntan Valley, Arizona, Gracie Grubbs of Portales, New Mexico; 6 grandchildren, Shannon, Jeremy, Jamie, Audrey, Natasha, and Randi; and 12 great grandchildren.

**LOGAN COUNTY, Ark. — A man is being questioned as a suspect in connection to the homicide of his mother in Logan County.

According to the Logan County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a call about a domestic disturbance at a home on Rasor Street in the city of Blue Mountain in southeastern Logan County Thursday, Jan. 6, afternoon.

When investigators arrived, they found the body of 83-year-old Elva Smith, who lived at the home.

Officials say three other family members at the scene also lived in the home.

Smith was found with what appeared to be blunt-force trauma marks on her head. Her body will be taken to the Arkansas Crime Lab for autopsy, and her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Investigators took Smith's son, 58-year-old Gary Grubbs, in for questioning. Officials say that Grubbs is considered a suspect in his mother's death.

A weapon believed to be used in Smith's death and other evidence was taken from the scene and processed to determine what exactly happened.

No further details surrounding this case have been released. This is an ongoing investigation.
