Virginia Lee Goodwin 89, of Decatur passed away at 3:51 p.m., Friday January 7, 2022, in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Virginia "Ginnie" was born June 25, 1932, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Irwin and Donna (Fickes) Schroeder. She retired From Carter-Wallace Labs. Virginia married Harvey "Oz" Goodwin on August 8, 1992. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

Ginnie passed away peacefully of natural causes surrounded by her loving family. She was an avid animal lover and in her younger years she had a sheep named snowball. Snowball would ride in her convertible wherever she went. Ginnie was known for rescuing all types of animals including several dogs over the years and feeding multiple stray cats at her back door.
Ginnie was also recently recognized by the American Cancer Society as the longest living cancer survivor in Macon County of 72 years. Those that knew Ginnie were no doubt touched by her generous heart and zest for life. She truly enjoyed her time with us and requested a message to all to remind us how she lived her life and maybe encourage others to do the same:
"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming 'WOW! What a ride!'…Mom"

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gene Schroeder, sister Norma Johner, nephew Craig Johner, and stepdaughter Angela Wehrle.

Final Resting Place
Illini Cemetery
Warrensburg, IL 62573
