Indianapolis –

Maria "Mary" Ann (Sergi) Lorenzano, 93, lifelong Indianapolis resident, passed away January 9, 2022. Mrs. Lorenzano was the only daughter born to Italian immigrants, Giuseppe and Teresa (Zappia) Sergi. She was married to Antonio "Tony" John Lorenzano for 53 years before his death in 2003.

Maria graduated from St. Mary Academy and attended classes at Indiana Central College. She was a strong proponent of education and even recently took classes to brush up on her beloved Italian language. She worked for Superior Coffee, Indiana Bell, Wm. H. Block Company and for Lazarus over the years. She was a devout Catholic and was actively involved at St. Bernadette, and more recently attended Holy Name. She was a member of the Cathedral High School Mothers' Club, the Italian American Club, and a recipient of the St. John Bosco Award through the CYO.

Maria was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend whose unconditional love will always remain with her family. She was the matriarch of many generations, including 8 children, 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She never met a stranger and embraced all as family. She enjoyed traveling—especially to Italy, reading, and watching sports, and she was always there to cheer on her sons at Christian Park Little League through the years. She was a true Nonna or Nonni, an Italian grandmother, with a gift for making some of the finest lasagna, gnocchi, and meatballs. Maria was a loving caregiver to her husband, parents, and her in-laws in their later years. She celebrated life to fullest and will always be remembered for her grace, beauty, courageous spirit, and unconditional love for everyone.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Private John J. Lorenzano I.F.D.; brothers, Dominic (Betty), Anthony Paul, Francis (Claris), Rocco (Laverne), Joseph Thomas, and Michael Sergi (Diana).

Survivors include her children, Anthony Paul (Lynn), Mark Albert (Martha), Michael Nunzio (Karen), Vincent Mario (Jan), Victor Leopold (Deborah) Lorenzano, Angela (Victor) Lorenzano Kiplinger, Nancy Lorenzano (Jim); grandchildren, Angela (Bryan), Leslie (Garad), Joseph (Megan), Maria (James), Lisa (Shawn), Diana (Tyler), Johnna (David), Michael (Danielle), Dominic (Shannon), Natalie (Luke), Kristen, Nicholas (Emily), Annie (Thomas), Elizabeth, John and Anna (Clark); sisters-in-law, Roseanne Sergi and Mary Ann Amore; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Lorenzano Family is grateful for the care provided by Dr. Singh, Dr. Jones, and the Visiting Angels over the past several years, most recently by Delta, Lori, Amanda, and Lisa.

The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2022, in Holy Name Catholic Church. All in attendance will be required to wear masks. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. For the safety of all who wish to honor Maria's life, visitation hours will not be observed at this time. O'Riley Funeral Home is serving the family.
