Funeral services for Mrs. John Pickney Long, 97, of 1309 Elizabeth Ave., who died this morning at a local hospital, will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Harry & Bryant Chapel in the Oaks. Dr. Warner L. Hall, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. long was born Jan. 28, 1860 in Franklin County, Va., daughter of the late Samuel Shrewsbury and Mildred Ann Dawson Cook. She was a descendent of Samuel Clements whose pen name Mark Twain. She attended Miss Hairston's Private School for Girls; also Piedmont Institute. She was a teacher until her marriage. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Miss Mildred Long, Miss Elizabeth Long, both of Charlotte. Mrs. Charles Jasper Miller of Richmond, Va.; four sons, Preston Boyd Long; James Morris Long, both of Charlotte, John Pickney Long Jr., of Richmond, Va., William Dawson Long of Asheville and two grandchildren.
