Mrs. long was born Jan. 28, 1860 in Franklin County, Va., daughter of the late Samuel Shrewsbury and Mildred Ann Dawson Cook. She was a descendent of Samuel Clements whose pen name Mark Twain. She attended Miss Hairston's Private School for Girls; also Piedmont Institute. She was a teacher until her marriage. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Miss Mildred Long, Miss Elizabeth Long, both of Charlotte. Mrs. Charles Jasper Miller of Richmond, Va.; four sons, Preston Boyd Long; James Morris Long, both of Charlotte, John Pickney Long Jr., of Richmond, Va., William Dawson Long of Asheville and two grandchildren.
