Howard L. Afford Jr., 69, a retired post office employee, died Sunday of repiratory failure at Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hebron Hills Cemetery in Brandon. Mr. Alford, a Hinds County native, lived in the Clinton area for 32 years. He was a World War II Marine veteran and a graduate Delta State University. He had worked for the state Board of Health and the state Department of Agriculture before working for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include: wife, Marjorie; son, David Howard Alford of Brandon; daughter, Mary Lou Peden of Brandon; brothers, Roger Alford of Bolton and Wayne Alford of Jackson, Tenn.; sister, Barbara Gates of Clinton; two grandchildren.
