Services for C.C. "Neal" Mathews, 83, Lecompton, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lecompton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Angelito Samson officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton.

Mr. Mathews, former mayor of Lecompton, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1992, at Rossville Valley Manor, Rossville.

He was born Sept. 25, 1909, at Lorraine, the son of George Elmer Mathews and Edith La Force.

A farmer and businessman who owned Mathews Hardware Store in Lecompton from 1965 to 1973, Mr. Mathews served on the Lecompton Board of Education, the Douglas County Extension Council, the Douglas County Co-op Board, Fruit Growers Assn. His family had been named 4-H Family of the Year.

He was a member of the Lions Club, Perry, and the Odd Fellows Lodge.

Mr. Mathews married Mary Bessma Hays on Nov. 1, 1932, at Manhattan. She died Nov. 5, 1992.

Survivors include two sons, George, McLouth, and Larry, Perry; a daughter, Carolyn Stewart, Simsbury, Conn.; two brothers, Guy, Wamego, and Lester; two sisters, Thelma McKinley, Perry, and Ethel May Lyman, Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
