Eva Lorene Lee, 88, of McAlester, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at a local nursing home. Born March 21, 1919, near DeQueen, Ark., she was the daughter of Henry Epp and Minnie Virginia (Gammon) Cooper. Early in life she lived in Pickens for a number of years and married V. N. Lee on Feb. 11, 1939, in Idabel. They moved to McAlester in the early 1940s and she had lived here since then. Her church work took up a lot of her time but she also enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was a charter member of the North Side Assembly of God Church and served as secretary and treasurer for 15 years. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Scott Hammond, of McAlester; three sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon and Judy Lee, Omaha, Neb., Carrol and Dianne Lee, of McAlester, and Larry and Karen Lee, Fresno, Calif. Also, five grandchildren, Stacy Roberts and her husband, Brian, Omaha, Neb., Nicole Bracamonte and her husband, Michael, Fresno, Calif., Andrea Hall and her husband, Ian, Fresno, Calif., Kelly Hampton and her husband, DeWayne, of McAlester, and Jeff Lee and his wife, Sharyl, Seattle. And, five great-grandchildren, Lauren Roberts, Omaha, Neb., Ashtyn and Mia Bracamonte, Fresno, Calif., Claire Hall, Fresno, Calif., and Jarred Lee, Seattle. And, one sister, Alta Smalling, of Valliant, and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Lois Cooper, Lubbock, Texas, and Coy and Jerry Cooper, Lubbock, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, V. N. Lee on March 12, 1996; a brother, Virgil Cooper, and a sister, Della McDaniel. Pallbearers will be H. L. "Junior" Johnson. Keith Kinnamon, Marvin Simmons, Tony Sexton, Bruce Carter, and Larry Tennyson. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at North Side Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Joedy Hendrix officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
