Susan attended all of elementary school except second grade all of high school in Pritchett graduating with the class of 1968. After high school she attended Pikes Peak Institute of Medical Technology. She worked for Dr. Sampson office in Las Animas over the years also at the Honey Livestock in La Junta, the lunch program at La Junta Jr. High School and North La Junta School, Coop in Cheraw, K-bobs in La Junta and Pauline's Sportswear in La Junta. She started working at Loma Vista Medical Center in September of 1986 and worked until May 2012.
Susan is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gene Long of the family home; sons, Cody (Cynthia) Long and Kirby (Reygan) Long all of La Junta; grandchildren, Devin, Xavier, Mason, Nora, and Kailey; brother, Gerald (Charlene) Cole of Las Lunas, N.M.; sisters, Ellen (Leo) James of Foss, Oklahoma; Linda (Clifton) Martin and Dawna (Gary) Miller both of Las Animas; mother-in-law, Marie Long of Las Animas; brother-in-law, Jim (Janet McGaughey) Long of La Junta; sisters-in-law, Lola (Bub Bland) Baublits of Las Animas; Lenda (Frank) Sumpter of Kim; Merlene (Jim) Klinkerman of La Salle, Colorado; step-sister, Evelyn (Dean) Richart of Las Animas and step-brother, Dan (Karen) Kirschman of Arkansas; uncles, Allen (Lula) Cole of Springfield, CO and Taylor Wilson of Pueblo West, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Ewnice Cole; sister, Nancy Jo Rose, on Jan. 2, 2013; brother-in-law, Albert Rose; father-in-law, Clarence Long; and brothers-in-law, Glendon Long and Bob Baublits.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Tom Dudley of the Cheraw United Methodist Church and Pastor Kenneth West of the Crowley Community Baptist Church officiating.
