Velma graduated as an R.N. in The Cadet Nurse Corps, which was an important federal program for the training of American nurses during WWII. She was a great example of what it means to be a Woman of God and a diligent prayer warrior for all who needed prayers. Velma was a breast cancer survivor for nearly 40 years. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed volunteering at The Classic Shop.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, a sister, and great grandson, Garrett Rasa. Her beautiful life will always be cherished by her children, Susan Rasa and husband Norman, of Lexington; Nancy Bartow and Richard of Loch Lloyd; Nadine Moss and husband Gary of Springfield; George Zimmerschied and wife Lisa of Independence. She adored 13 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Higginsville, MO on Saturday, January 8 at 2 PM. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1 PM. If desired, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or her home church, Immanuel Lutheran.
