Mother of Utah's First Lady Dies After Long Illness

SALT LAKE CITY (UPI)--Mrs. Leah Ivins Cardon, mother of Mrs. Calvin L. Hampton, died Saturday afternoon at the governor's mansion following an illness of two years. She was 83.

Leah Ivins is the daughter of Elizabeth Ashby Snow and Anthony Woodward Ivins. She married Phillippe Vincent Cardon September 13, 1913.

She was the widow of Phillip Cardon. The couple was married in 1913. He died in October, 1965, in Washington, D. C., after after service as director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization with headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Mrs. Cardon is survived by a son, Dr. Phillip V. Jr., Wheaton, Md., and two daughters, Mrs. Rampton and Mrs. Gerald (Margaret) WessLer, Gulfport, Miss.

SALT LAKE CITY - Funeral services are pending for Mrs Leah Ivins Cardon, 83, Salt Lake City, the mother of Mrs, Calvin L. Hampton, who died Saturday afternoon in the governor's mansion after a two-year illness.

Mrs. Cardon was married in 1913 to Phillip V. Cardon and he preceded her in death in October, 1965, in Washington, D.C., after service as director-general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization with headquarters in Rome, Italy,

Mrs. Cardon is survived by one son, Dr. Phillip V. Cardon Jr,, Wheaton, Md.; and two daughters, Mrs. Rampton, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Gerald (Margaret) Wessler, Golfport, Miss.
