She was born March 31, 1929, in Union County, N.C., a daughter of the late George Preston Hinson and Rosa Mullis Hinson and was the wife of the late Harold Mitchum Simpson.
Mrs. Simpson retired from Springs Industries. She loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful member of White Springs Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Shiloh Zion Fire Department.
Mrs. Simpson is survived by her children, Kenneth Simpson and his wife, Karen Blackmon, and Carol Walters and her husband, Michael, of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Tambra Gardner and her husband, Phil, Chad Walters and his wife, Jacque, Jeffrey Simpson and his wife, Poppy, and Kelly George and her husband, Ralph; 16 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Simpson; two great-grandchildren, Preston and John George; and her 12 siblings.
The celebration of life funeral service for Mrs. Simpson was 3 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at White Springs Baptist Church, officiated by the Revs. Don Waldrop and Charles Hammond, with burial in Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening, June 7, at Burgess Funeral Home; and other times at her home.
