Charles Norton Lavery III, 86, of Charlotte, died December 30, 2021, at The Little Flower in Charlotte.

Charles was born in Mecklenburg County on December 29, 1935, the son of Charles and Jessie Lavery II.

He grew up in Charlotte and when his country called on him for service, he answered that call. Charles enlisted in the United States Marine Corp at Parris Island in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1958 after earning the National Defense Service Medal. He went on to continue his military service in the Naval Reserves.

Blessed with a talent to use his hands, he became a metal worker for American Truetzschler, producing textile machinery. Charles ultimately retired from there.

He met Ms. Rebecca Ann Smith, who he went on to marry. She preceded him in death in 2011.

Charles is survived by his son, John (wife Mieke) Lavery of Indian Trail; and his grandson, McKinley Lavery of Indian Trail. He is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael Lavery.

Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery
