Transcription of text from Twentieth Century History of Carroll County:
The only murder by soldiers during the war from DeWitt township that we have particulars about was that of Morgan Crispin, a minor son of E. P. Crispin, who was killed the day before Anderson himself was killed. Anderson took Crispin as a guide, and when about two miles west of the Crispin farm, on the 22nd of October, 1864, they cut his throat.
