Lawrence graduated from Jackson P. Burley High School in 1957, and from North Carolina A&T in 1961. He then served in the U. S. Army. After leaving the Army, Lawrence served in the Charlottesville and Albemarle Police Departments for over 20 years. After retiring from the police department, he started driving for JAUNT Inc. in 2000. Over his years driving for JAUNT, many passengers would always enjoy his sense of humor and kindness. Lawrence was the Secretary of the Pride of Virginia No. 122.
Lawrence was very fond of music, and he played professionally in between his time in the Army and police department. His other favorite pastimes included cooking, solving crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with his family.
He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory two sons, William David Brown, Mark Anthony Brown, and one daughter, Danielle Alexandra Brown and three granddaughters.
A memorial service was held at Teague Funeral Home, Charlottesville, VA.
Due to the prevalence of the Omicron variant, the family asked those attending this service to please wear a face mask.
