He was born to Hampton "Bob" Robert Cummings and Flossie Mae Taylor on November 23, 1942.
After graduating from high school, Max left for college, met his wife Janice Lewis Cummings, and graduated with his master's degree from Northern Illinois University. Together, they had two children:.
Max loved spending time with his family. Max was a dedicated teacher for close to 30 years between Bunger Middle School in Evansdale, IA and Antioch Upper Grade School in Antioch, IL, spending countless hours counseling, teaching math, and as an administrator.
When he wasn't busy teaching, he enjoyed coaching wrestling and iceless hockey, woodworking and utilizing his handyman skills around the house.
This, of course, was when he wasn't chasing his children and grandchildren around.
After he retired, he continued to substitute teach around Ames, IA, and was known for snow blowing the circle we lived on so his family could get to extracurricular activities. He was also into researching our family genealogy.
Max was preceded by his brother Richard (Janice) Cummings and sister Debbie (Charlie) Makidon.
His favorite food was Casey's donuts and a cup of coffee.
Services will be held at Bondurant Christian Church, 304 Grant Street South, Bondurant, Iowa 50035. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2022. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2022.
If you would like to donate, there is a memorial set up for a scholarship to Ellsworth Community College through Iowa Falls and Alden High School. Please contact Jan Cummings if you would like to make a donation.
