He had been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a 1926 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy. He was a pharmacist in this area for over 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth McNeer Carlan and three brothers and three sisters and was the last member of his immediate family.
Surviving are daughters, Mrs. W. Jeff (Susan) Gillespie III of Tazewell, Va., Sally Whitbourne of Rochester, N. Y.; son, Cabell Briscoe Carlan, Jr., of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, January 13, 1999, at 11:30 a.m. from the Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley with Dr. W. D. Hasty, Jr., officiating. Friends may call at Mercer Funeral Home Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Those attending services are asked to be at the funeral home by 11 a.m. The family may be reached at the home of Susan Gillespie, 202 West Fincastle, Tazewell, Va.
