Howard A. Acheson, 72, Atchison, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison with the Rev. Thomas Flaherty, chaplain of the Atchison Police Department, officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster.

Mr. Acheson died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1992, at Heartland Hospital West in St. Joseph, Mo.

He was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Effingham to John Raymond and Elizabeth Mae Piper Acheson. He attended Maple Grove Grade School and graduated from Atchison County Community High School, Effingham.

He worked as a police officer for the Atchison Police Department from 1955 until he retired as a lieutenant in April 1981. He was a member of the National Peace Officers Assn.

He enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing and hunting.

He married Ruth Marie Linscott on Dec. 27, 1943, in Effingham. She died March 11, 1968.

He later married Mary Bartelt on June 23, 1979, in Lancaster. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Bill, Sarcoxie, Mo., and Rick, of Lawrence; a daughter, Joyce Lindsay, Wichita; and two stepdaughters, Carol Munsterman, Rushville, Mo., and Jeanne Norman, House Springs, Mo.; a brother, Darwyn, Effingham; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
