Walter Key of Mobeetie Dies

Walter D. Key, a resident of Wheeler County for the past 32 years, died at his home three miles southeast of Mobeetie at 5:25 o'clock last Friday afternoon.

The 62-year-old farmer had been in ill health since last October but was seriously ill for only a few days. He was the father of Orval Key of Amarillo, former resident of this city.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the First Baptist Church in Mobeetie, with Rev. R.L. Cooksey, pastor, in charge, assisted by Rev. Homer Salley, pastor of the First Methodist Church of that city.

Judge R.H. Forrester of Wheeler was in charge of the Masonic Riteual. Mrs. J.R. Patterson served as pianist, Aubrey Lee Leonard was song leader and Mr. Leonard and Rev. Lane sang a duet.

Pall bearers were: Millard Godwin, Raymond, Hooker, Frank Worthington, Thomas Beck, Roy Johnston and Clarence Dyson. Honorary bearers were: J.E. Jones, C.A. Dysart, Chriss Wright, O.P. Gober, Wes Johnson and Ogden Sims.

Clay Funeral Home was in charge of interment in the Mobeetie Cemetery.

Mr. Key was born in Callahan County, Texas, January 28, 1886. He came to Wheeler County with his family and settled near Mobeetie 32 years ago, having formerly resided in Vernon.

He was married to Miss Lou Dealie Christian in 1904, in Erath County. Two sons were born to the union, both of whom survive. Mrs. Key passed away in Wilbarger County in 1912.

Mr. Key was married to Miss Vera Anderson on April 5, 1916, at Mobeetie. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union, all three of whom, together with Mrs. Key survive.

Survivors are: the widow, Mrs. Vera Key, Mobeetie; four sons and one daughter, Garland Lee, Bakersfield, Calif.; Marlin Exford, Billings, Montana; Orval Herman, Amarillo; Clarence Wesley, Crane; Mrs. Doris Elizabeth Hutchins, Bakersfield, Calif.; three grandsons and four granddaughters; four brothers, Abe P., Eastland; Jim H.,, Tahoka; Louis E., Odell; Carles A., Big Spring; two sisters, Mrs. Kitty Huddleston, Memphis; and Mrs. Lou Hare, Lingleville, Texas.

Mr. Key was reared in the Methodist Church at Lingleville, and recently re-dedicated his life to Christ.
