Harry Dowling, GAO Employe For 17 Years

Harry H. Dowling, 67, a retired General Accounting Office employe and a native of Georgetown, died after a heart attack yesterday at his home, 3200 Sixteenth street N.W.

Mr. Dowling retired in 1957 after almost 17 years of service with the General Accounting Office.

After attending local schools he went to work for The Star as a messenger boy. In 1910, while working as a messenger for a real estate firm, he lost both legs in a streetcar accident.

He operated a neighborhood billiard parlor on North Capitol street for several years. In 1929 he sold the business and went into semiretirement until 1940, when he joined the GAO.

Mr. Dowling leaves his wife, Mrs. Madge Dowling of the home address; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Cockey of Owings Mill, Md., and a brother, Thomas of 46 South Park drive, Arlington, Va.

Services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the S. H. Hines Funeral Home, 2901 Fourteenth street N.W., with burial in Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
