Rev. Ambrose T. McGinnity, 82, of Knox, Indiana, passed away Monday, February 28, 2000.

Rev. McGinnity was a retired priest with the Diocese of Gary and served as a Lt. Chaplain in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1954. He served as an Assistant at St. Mary's in Michigan City, St. Bridget in Hobart, St. Peter in LaPorte, St. Francis Xavier of Lake Station, and Holy Rosary in Gary.

He then became Pastor in 1964 serving at St. Mary's in Kouts, IN, St. John Evangelist in St. John, IN, and St. Helen in Hebron, IN. He was Chaplain for the K of C Council #1561 in Winimac, and Chaplain for American Legion Post #131 in Knox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jewel McGinnity, and two brothers, Francis and Daniel McGinnity, and is survived by his brother, George (Bernice) McGinnity of Merrillville; sister, Rose Doran of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law, Mary Kay McGinnity of South Bend, IN, and 15 nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Rendina Funeral Home, 5100 Cleveland St., Merrillville, IN. Scripture and prayer service at 4 p.m. Thursday. Rev. McGinnity will lie in state at St. Thomas Church in Knox, Indiana, on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon, with The Most Rev. Dale J. Melczek, Bishop of the Gary Diocese, and Clergy of the Diocese Con-celebrating. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery.
