On Friday,May 12, 2006, the Lord's angel of mercy took our mother, Alice Merdell Clatterbuck, to be with the Lord Jesus and receive her reward in heaven. Her passing will be felt by all those who knew her in life. Merdell was born on March 16, 1919, to Waverly and Minnie Dyer in Old Rag, Virginia (Madison County). She was a loving wife and steadfast partner to her husband, Guy E. Clatterbuck, who went to be with the Lord in November of 1994. She missed him dearly.
She now sits at the side of the Lord, reunited with her dearly beloved Guy. We know her heart is filled with joy. She was also a wonderful mother; always patient, loving and understanding, but never afraid to be firm when necessary. She instilled a deep sense of dedication, self-reliance, and hard work in her sons, training them to meet the world head on, and having the tools to do so. She walked with God, and led by example. She loved people, particularly her family. The only way to draw her ire was to speak disparagingly of any family member. She is adored and loved by all who knew her. Merdell loved gardening, growing flowers and vegetables, and tending her pets.
She will be particularly missed by her surviving sisters, Dorothy Trahos and Virginia Nicholson; her sons and daughters-in-law, Guy E., Jr. and Judy Clatterbuck, and Anthony and Linda Clatterbuck; as well as her grandchildren, Aimee Clatterbuck, Leslie Clatterbuck Parker, and Stephanie, Jessie & Jon Clatterbuck; two great-grandchildre, Logyn and Kaylee Parker; and many deeply loved nieces, nephews and family members. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Found & Sons Funeral Home, 850 Sperryville Pike in Culpeper. The funeral service, to be officiated by The Reverend Perry Utz, will be held on Thursday, May 18 at 1 p.m., at Found & Sons Chapel. Merdell will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper, immediately following the service. The family will again receive friends for refreshments at the Reva Volunteer Fire Hall following the graveside service. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of flowers or a donation to the Thoroughfare Bible Church, P.O. Box 838, Madison, VA 22727. Online condolences may be sent to www.foundandsons.com Arrangements by Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper.
