Donald Sam Baker, known to those he held most dear as Papa Bo, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2021 in San Angelo. He was born on October 22, 1942 in Grapeland, Texas to Nathan David and Olive Norene Bridges Baker.

Don married Virgie Mae Rackley on February 1, 1964 in Ferris, Texas. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and served for 2 years in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was proud to say that his ability to type kept him out of combat and in a cozy office position. After that, he found a fondness for the car business and worked as a business manager for a few dealerships around Texas. He retired in 2004 from Lawrence Hall Chevrolet in Abilene.

He had a great love for his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, but he enjoyed it the most when his family and friends were fishing and hunting with him. He also loved competing in games like Mexican Train, 42, Rummikub, and Spades with his sisters, family, and friends. His greatest joy was watching his grandson, Ty, play football, basketball, and any other sport or event in which Ty was involved.

Don knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior and is grateful to be restored to complete health. We take comfort in knowing he is now celebrating and reuniting with those who have gone on before him. They include his son, Mark Douglas Baker, his parents, his brother Hulon David Baker and his wife, Peggy, his sister, Sereta Nell Platt and her husband, Jack, and his two brothers-in-law, Gene Huff and Bobby Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Virgie, his daughter, Leah Baker Flowers and husband Ted, his grandson, Ty Hunter Flowers, his sisters, Mary Lou Baker Huff and Sandra Baker Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Donald will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79605. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79605 with Rev. Steve Longmire officiating.
