O. D. Phillips, 44. operator of Phillips Sewing Machine Shop, died Thursday night in a private hospital. Relatives attributed his death to a heart attack. Born near Douglas, Mr. Phillips had lived in the Atlanta area about 19 years. He was a veteran of World War II, when he served with the Army Air Force. His home was at 1176 Cascade Ave., Southwest. Surviving are his wife, the former Lillian Maybeth Adams; a daughter, Mrs. Sonya (Jerry) Roberts. Atlanta; a son, Maxie Jules Phillips, Atlanta; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William M. Phillips, Fitzgerald; three sisters, Mrs. Verna (George) Long and Mrs. Gladys (George) Kennedy, Fitzgerald; Mrs. Myrtice (Murray) Gay, Cordele, brother, Wade Saval Phillips, Florala, Ala., and uncle James Henry Cobia Sr, Savannah. Preceded in death by sister Mrs. Sula Ashurst

His correct name is "O. D." the enumerator often misunderstood listing name as "Odie" but this is incorrect. He had only the two initials, they did not stand for two given names, he simply had two initials. His son is Maxie Jules Phillips in Jonesboro, GA.
