The clerk noted that Charles was 5'7", weighed 157 lbs, and had a scar on his right arm. Earlier that year, the 1940 US Census listed Charles as living with his family in Raymond Town, South Dakota, and that he had lived in the same house since at least 1935. His father, Arthur (?) was a mail carrier. Asa had graduated from high school.
