Services for James L. "Bub" Stanfill, 84, of Vanleer, are scheduled for 2 p.m. today in the Taylor Funeral Home chapel, with Bro. Artist Waynick, Bro. Earl Langley and Bro. Michael Oliver officiating. Interment will be in Hinson Cemetery. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home. Mr. Stanfill, a native of Houston County, passed away Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, at Alive Hospice of St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

Bub was a retired farmer, and was very active in his community. He served on the Five Rivers R C & D Council. He was a past board member for the Houston County Board of Education, was a former board member for the Farm Bureau, on the Equalization Board, a past county commissioner for Houston County, on the Houston County Historical Society, and numerous other farm-related organizations.

Survivors include his sons, James Michael Stanfill and spouse Juanita, Kevin D. Stanfill and spouse Donna, and Randall Keith Stanfill and spouse Sherry, all of Vanleer; daughters, Deborah Stanfill, of Nashville, and Laquita Stanfill, of Vanleer; brother, Ray "Tuff" Stanfill, of Vanleer; sisters, Mildred Sharpton, of Columbia, Linda Watts, of Springfield, and Edith Ann Jackson, of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Andrew Stanfill, Adam Stanfill, Kayla Stanfill and Ethan Stanfill; step-grandchildren, Thomas Ferrell and Chris Ferrell; great-grandchild, Bailee Stanfill; step-great-grandchild, Emmylou Ferrell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Jewel Baker Stanfill; brother, Edwin "Biggon" Stanfill; sisters, Sarah Adams, Willodean McIllwain and Mary Roberts; and parents, Eric Thomas and Mary Ann Warden Stanfill.
