The extended families of the Memphis and Germantown Fire Departments lost a senior member and dear friend yesterday as Mrs. Willa Vance Lowry passed away at the age of 104. In addition to being Joe's mom, "Miss Willa" was a close family friend for many years. I was fortunate to have met her just over 40 years ago. Miss Willa was known for her charitable work, and was once recognized on television for the hat-knitting program she started. She was always a very interesting lady to talk with, sharing her remarkable memories about the city of Memphis from decades ago. Angela and I visited her many times over the years and she was always happy to see us. Rest in peace, dear friend. We miss you already. Prayers for Joe & Tracy Lowry.
