She went on to pen numerous other novels, literary works, essays, and screenplays during her career including "Slouching Towards Bethlehem," (1968) "Play It as It Lays," (1970) "A Star Is Born," (1976) "Salvador," (1983) "Democracy," (1984) and "The Year of Magical Thinking." (2005) Her work also earned her various awards and honors including the National Book Award and the National Humanities Medal.
