Obituary - The Evening Star (Washington, DC), February 17, 1952:

Mrs. Gertrude E. Riley, Therapy Instructor

Mrs. Gertrude E. Riley, 79, a therapy teacher here many years, died Thursday in the Home for Incurables after a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow in the Little Church of Fort Lincoln, followed by entombment in Fort Lincoln Mausoleum.

Mrs. Riley was the widow of Dr. Joe Shelby Riley, physician, osteopath, chiropractor, therapist and preacher who died five years ago. Dr. Riley, 97, was a cousin of James Whitcomb Riley, the poet.

For many years Mrs. Riley conducted classes in zone therapy, a method of healing in which pressure is exerted on nerve centers of the body.

She helped her husband conduct a chiropractic school here for several years and later traveled widely with him doing therapy work.

After Dr. Riley's death, she returned to Washington and made her home with a sister, Mrs. O.F. Hunter, 1537 Monroe street N.W.

Mrs. Riley also is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert Huffine of St. Davids, Pa., two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
