Chestnut Mound Community farmer, Mr. Dale Austin, died peacefully at 2 a.m. Tuesday morning December 21, 2021 at his Granville Highway home. He was pronounced deceased at 3:10 a.m. by Avalon Hospice of Cookeville who had been assisting the family with his care. Mr. Austin was 59.

Bro. Jeff Burton officiated at the Thursday morning December 23rd funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Following the 11 a.m. services burial was in the Austin family lot at the Chestnut Mound United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The youngest of three children, he was the only son of Mrs. Maggie Lou Mayberry Austin of the Chestnut Mound Community and the late John A. Austin who died at the age of 81 on July 16, 2013, he was born Larry Dale Austin in Carthage on August 28, 1962 and was reared on the Austin family farm in the Dillards Creek Community.

Mr. Austin was a 1980 graduate of Smith County High School where he majored in agriculture.

On July 12, 1985 he was united in marriage to Enigma Community native, the former Sandra Gail Huff. The ceremony was performed at the home of Miss Huff's sister, Barbara Elaine Huff Hunter in Carthage by Eld. Charles Allen Gentry.

Mr. Austin was a loyal thirty six year employee of the Dana Corporation in Gordonsville and was employed there until being diagnosed with kidney cancer on October 26th of this year.

He loved his farming operation and also enjoyed hunting.

He was of the United Methodist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife Gail, of over thirty six years, are their three children, Cayla Austin Judd of Baxter, John Austin and wife Molly Moss Austin of South Carthage, Tyler Austin of Livingston; two sisters, Gail Austin Reece and husband Danny, Renia Vaden and husband Donnie all of the Chestnut Mound Community; five grandchildren, McKenzie Judd, Hayden Judd, Ethan Judd, Kaylena Austin and S. J. Austin; one great-grandson, Maddox Perez.
