James Teer was the son of Daniel Teer and Druscilla Dearman, both of whom were born in North Carolina. His parents married in South Carolina but later lived in Alabama, where both died.
James' first marriage was about 1821-1822 in South Carolina to Rebecca Roberts, who gave birth to several children. The couple eventually moved to Winston, Mississippi, where Rebecca probably died. James married a second time on May 18, 1845 in Winston, Mississippi, to Eliza Duncan and had several more children. James and Eliza relocated to Hopkins County, Texas between 1850 and 1860 where they lived out their lives.
