John P. Slusser, Sr. SMSSGT USAFret 81 of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on December 16, 2021 after a bicycle accident.
John was born to James H. and Mildred Slusser on August 15, 1940 in Peoria, Illinois.
After graduation, John worked as a farmhand and at his father's gas station on East Main Street in Casey IL. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in November 1958 and retired 22 years later. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for Hughes Air Craft Co. and Raython, retiring again in 1995.
John, along with others from the Casey area, established Casey's first internet service, EIIS. John also worked for a small company in Tucson, making improvements to the artificial heart made by Sin Cardia. John's second love was his ham radio (WD7F). He was always talking on his radio or helping others with their radios.
John was preceded in death by: his parents; younger brother, Clark; son, James (Andy); and, his oldest grandson, John C.
He is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Shirley; son, John Jr.; daughter, Susan; granddaughters Jamie, Jessica, Jennifer, Jackie, and Sarah; grandsons James and Jesse; seven great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and, three great-great-grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at the Casey Methodist Church on June 18, 2022. Visitation is at 10:00am and service at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. Joe Richard officiating.
