The Cairo citizen Thursday, 10 Oct 1895
Our people were pained to hear of the untimely death of Ira Kelly of Mounds, formerly of this place (Villa Ridge). Ira is the oldest son of Mr. George Kelly and a grandson of Rev. M. B. Kelly. He took sick before the family moved from here, but seemed to get much better and was able to go to work, but after a few days he grew much worse. He was a healthy young man about 19 years old and gave promise of a long and active life, but malarial ever did its work quickly and he died last Thursday evening at 8 p.m. at his home in Mounds. Funeral services were conducted Friday by Rev. Shoemaker, of Mound City. He was interred in the Redden graveyard. The parents certainly have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in is their greatest bereavement, as they have lost two other children lately.

WHEREAS, By the dispensation of this Providence our All Wise Creator has seen fit to remove one of our members from our midst, therefore,
RESOLVED, That while we deeply feel the loss our society has sustained, we also recognize the loss to his parents, brothers, and sisters.
RESOLVED, That we as a society tender to the stricken family and bereaved relations our heartfelt sympathies and prayers in this their great affliction, praying that our Heavenly Father will comfort them as he knoweth best.
RESOLVED, That we regard the sudden departure of one who was so recently in our midst in the enjoyment of youthful health and vigor, as imparting a lesson to all his surviving associates which we hope that they will not fail to make a solemn study.
RESOLVED, That these resolutions be put upon the records of the society and published in the Pulaski Enterprise and Cairo Citizen and that a copy of the same be presented to the bereaved family.
