John Thomas Spencer, age 90, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at his home in Leonard, MO.
He was born in Shelby County near Bethel, MO on March 12, 1931, in Bethel, MO, the son of the late Florence (Jones) Secrist and the late William Spencer. He married Roseetta Bracket in 1955. She preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Catherine Hampton on December 1, 1975 in Shelbyville, MO.
John is survived by his wife, Cathy of the home; three step-children, Eddie Kissee of Bevier, MO, Floyd Kissee of Leonard, MO, and Angela Jackson of Atlanta, MO; seven step-grandchildren, Wesley Kissee, Michael Kissee, Jaynee Collins, Joey Kissee, Christine Moss, Ladeana Jackson, and Cayden Kissee; several great step-grandchildren; one brother, Wallace "Wally" Spencer of Hamer, ID; one sister, Mary Walker of Macon, MO; one special cousin, Doris Beatty of Hannibal, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Roseetta; infant brother, William Spencer; brother, Ervin Spencer; brother-in-law, Bill Walker; and son-in-law, Lavern Jackson.
John was a baptized member of the Assembly of God Church of Sigsbee. He worked most of his life on ranches and farms. John and Cathy loved raising their kids and grandkids together. He enjoyed tinkering around the house, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. A visitation will be held on Monday at the funeral home from 10 am until the time of the service. Burial will be held in the Concord Cemetery near Sigsbee, MO following the service. Memorials may be made to the family for expenses in care of Cathy Spencer.
