Dedicated family man Thomas "Stanley" Owen passed away surrounded by family at Heritage House of Greensburg on December 14, 2021.

Stanley was born in Richmond, Indiana, August 5th, 1937 to Janet and Thomas V. Owen. He graduated in 1955 from Columbus High School, where he met his wife of 63 years, Janet Sewell.

After proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps, he worked his way to a degree at Indiana Central College, while providing for his family and raising three daughters.

Stanley was a loyal employee of Devening Block for 43 years, a member of First Christian Church (and its 3M's class), a member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, and a Hospice volunteer.

Stanley enjoyed tennis, golf, and reading, and spent many years working the "Chain Gang" on the sidelines of Columbus North Football games. However, his passion was his family. Stanley could often be found attending games, performances, or recitals, and was happiest with one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren on his knee.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Janet Sue Sewell; children, Laura (Mike) Brown of Columbus, Lisa Owen (Scott Decker) of Seymour, and Lana Owen (Steve Scgalski) of Columbus; grandchildren, Brad (Valerie) Brown, Allison Brown (Richelle Baker), Justin (Mallory) Weddle, Jay (Alexandra) Weddle, MacKenzie (Trey) Adams, Lauren Smythe, Thomas Smythe, Fiona Smythe, and Ravi Varma; and great-grandchildren, Elliot Brown, Mary Grace Weddle, Brady Weddle, Eloise Weddle, Josephine Weddle, Cecilia Adams, Luna Garcia and Opal Garcia, in addition to his sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Stanley was preceded in death by mother, Janet Stanley Owen Vornholt; father, Thomas V. Owen; step-father, Barney Vornholt; and sister Esteline Owen Lucas.

A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2021, with Steve Yeaton officiating.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Entombment will be at the Garland Brook Mausoleum with full military honors presented by the U.S. Marine Corps Ceremonial Unit and the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
