Kenneth Hill "Bud" Smith, 82, of Candler, died Monday, October 1, 2007.

Mr. Smith was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late Ralph K. and Jessie Henson Smith. He served as a signal man with the US Navy during WW II and was retired from the Buncombe County Health Department. His hobbies were reading and hunting.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Christine Payne, Kathleen Woodbury, and Maxine McFee, and four brothers, Bob, John, Kay and Kerry Wayne Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn O'Kelley Smith; one son, Kenneth Michael Smith and his wife, Karen of Candler; a sister, Jerri Krauss; a brother Kell (Bill) Smith and his wife, Dot, of Candler; three grandchildren, Kenneth Jeffrey Smith, Jason Murphy, Stephanie Cathey and her husband, Ben; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Carson Cathey.

Graveside services will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park The Buncombe County Veterans Council will provide military honors.
